Absolute Path - How to Determine
When uploading from a local testing server to a web server the absolute path also needs to be updated. The absolute path is the directory where Mambo is located on the server hard drive. This small PHP script will report the actual absolute path. serverpath.php PHP Code:
Point a browser to this script and the path will appear in the browser. On a Linux server, that will give you something like this example: /var/www/example.com/httpdocs In the Mambo configuration.php file, the above example would look like this: $mosConfig_absolute_path = '/var/www/example.com/httpdocs'; Last edited by kenmcd : May 14th, 2005 at 00:39. |

How to Check-out Mambo from CVS on Windows
Using TortoiseCVS TortoiseCVS is an extension for Windows Explorer that makes using CVS easy. Install TortoiseCVS and Set-up Download Directory Obtain TortoiseCVS for Windows Info: http://www.tortoisecvs.org/ Download: http://www.tortoisecvs.org/download.shtml Install TortoisCVS. This will create new right-click menus in Windows Explorer. Create a directory where you want to download Mambo. I use ...\My Documents\Download\CVS\Mambo\ Start Tortoise CVS and Configure for Mambo Right-click on this new Mambo directory, select CVS Checkout from this menu. This will open TortoiseCVS. (See Figure 1) These instructions are to do an anonymous checkout. Enter the following info in the boxes: - Protocol: Password server (:pserver:) - Server: cvs.mamboforge.net - Repository folder: /cvsroot/mambo - User name: anonymous - Module: 4.5.x These are the settings to checkout Mambo v4.5.3 - Module: 4.5.x. ![]() Figure 1 - Configure for Mambo Checkout - for working on the module (See Figure 2) This setting will checkout the Mambo module and also track the version of each individual file. There will be a CVS folder in every download folder. These folders are used to track the file versions. ![]() Figure 2 - Checkout for working on the module Click OK . . . and files will start downloading. (See Figure 3) You will see all the files being downloaded in a list. Only changed files are downloaded using this method (first time = all files). The green lines with a leading "U" (for update) are the new files. ![]() Figure 3 - Files downloaded Export - for making a software release (See Figure 4) This method removes all the CVS tracking folders. All files are downloaded, not just changed files. Pick a folder name where you want the files downloaded. ![]() Figure 4 - Export for making a software release Click OK . . . and files will start downloading. (See Figure 5) This time all files are downloaded. ![]() Figure 5 - Export for making a software release file list You will now have the most current files. ChangeLog You will find the ChangeLog in: \My Documents\Download\CVS\Mambo\4.5.x\CHANGELOG It is a text file, open with any editor. ToDo List Recently added ToDo list - helps all know status & direction. You will find the ToDo list in: \My Documents\Download\CVS\Mambo\4.5.x\TODO It is a text file, open with any editor. Available branches/modules: - Module: 4.5.x - Mambo 4.5.3 branch - Module: 5.0 - Mambo 5.0 branch - Module: 4.5 - Mambo 4.5 branch, this is the current 4.5.2.x release To check-out a different branch, just change the Module setting (Figure 1). Note: These are development builds, NOT releases. (4.5.x and 5.0) Do not download and install on a production server and then start complaining about problems. They do run and are fun to play with on a testing server, but bugs are expected. Instructions for Linux are here: Getting Mambo from the CVS There is another program for Windows - WinCVS. It is more powerful, but much harder to use. To do a simple anonymous check-out, TortoiseCVS is much easier.
