Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere...
I have a scenario where I have a main horizontal menu which then leads into vertical submenus. I also have some columns of blog intro which lead off to the same stories as in the submenus. The problem I'm having is in the pathways... it seems I can have either one or the other - either the blog leading to a full pathway including sections, categories and stories, or a submenu and associated full pathway. What's happening is the pathway for say the submenu only shows 'home' and the current story. Is there anyway around this? I tried using 404SEF and it worked fine by simply setting the submenu items to the url of the blogs, not pretty but it works. The only problem now is that in the submenus I can't get the active menu item to show as active unless it is created as link to content when you first create the menu item. Any thoughts on this one? |

What version of Mambo?
I'm working on a 4.5.2.1 site with a similar menu setup with 404SEF installed and the pathways look ok to me. |

Sorry, I should've gone one extra with my explanation. To be honest I don't think this is an issue with 404SEF but rather the Mambo CMS itself.
Here goes... The pathway from the submenu works fine, the problem is with the hierarchy and active menu items. It seems for the pathway to show the full pathway the submenu needs to be composed of the full hierarchy. For example, say we have the hierarchy: Item A SubItem A.1 SubItem A.2 SubItem A.3 With this submenu structure the pathway will work fine but the main menu item becomes inactive. If the structure of the submenu is just the subitems with Parent Item A only showing in the the main menu (which is a very reasonable approach): SubItem A.1 SubItem A.2 SubItem A.3 then the pathway only shows the subitems unless they were created using url links rather than content items. Also, if url links are used the main menu item remain active. Otherwise if you use content linked items the main menu becomes inactive. So in creating the submenu it seems the problem is a trade off between using url links for showing a full pathway with the main menu item showing as active, or content item links to give a pathway formed only by the sub menu items though without active main menu items but with active submenu items. Did that make sense? It would be great if anyone has a work around for this problem. Tanks |

There is a discussion regarding sub-menus, blog menu links, module positioning parameters and related pathway issues in this thread:
