Default Firefox and Mambo Templates - Cool FEature

In firefox there are some cool new features that allow people to subscribe to your RSS feed as a live bookmark.

For this to happen you need to add a line like the following in the head tag of your template:

HTML Code:
<LINK REL="alternate" TITLE="Mambo Product News" HREF="http://www.blueflameit.ltd.uk/index2.php?option=com_rss&no_html=1" TYPE="application/rss+xml">

What are Live Bookmarks?

Live Bookmarks is a new technology in Firefox that lets you view RSS news and blog headlines in the bookmarks toolbar or bookmarks menu. With one glance, quickly see the latest headlines from your favorite sites. Go directly to the articles that interest you -- saving you time.

A site is enabled for Live Bookmarks when you see this icon on the bottom right corner of the browser. Clicking on the icon and selecting an RSS feed will bring up the Add Bookmark dialog. Select 'OK' and you will see Live Bookmarks with the rest of your bookmarks. Many people find it especially convenient to save Live Bookmarks in their Bookmarks Toolbar folder.

One of the many reasons all mambers should "Get Firefox and take back the web!"

I've just been contacted about the fledgling Mambo Spread Firefox project by Rick Blanc of the Mozilla Virtual Expo, to display the projects works semi-officially, which is great for spread the word of Mambo to Firefox users as well.

No hard feelings amongst Mambo/Firefox devotees?

Cheers,

Damian

"Hey! What's so bad about society entertainment?" Shouts the conservatory graduate. "Oh, right, it doesn't pay very well..."

And thanks for the tip, Phil, I've added it to the Mambo Spread Firefox template.

Cheers,

Damian

Ahh but I don't have the time or patience to sit wading through Firefox plugins when Opera does everything I want and more as soon as it's installed and generally always has done. Particulary the session management - I couldn't browse without it.

damn my loyalty.

Yes I agree... Opera is the preferred browser for me to. The only disadvantage is with Flash.. no flash player 7 but the tab functions unleast work as they supposed to work, external links open in new tab.. links on same site open in same tab, and save the session so it always opens those tabs Never could get Firefox configured like that

I used to be a hardcore Opera fan. It was, IMHO, the first viable alternative to IE/NS. But I feel it's gone down a fair bit since v7.x

I still love it for the emulation features such as "text only" and "lynx" etc.

But I do like Firefox better now. <shrug> You can't get away from running several browsers on your system anyway, not if you design web sites anyway

Question Do you still need to add this head tag in 4.5.2?

Hey there,

Phil talks about adding a line "in the head tag of your template"

...is that still necessary? Will we have to continue to do this in 4.5.3?

Thanks,

Tim

I'm a total FF user, I only use IE to test templates, I also have Opera which I find useless, I have NS the old ones, the new ones, I have IE 5.01, IE 5.5, IE6 but you can love/hate Opera, you can love/hate FF etc, etc, etc.

The fact is - IE is the Mountain King.

Not if you utilise:
Components -> Syndicate
Live Bookmarks = On

If you do the tag is automatically added to the <head> area of your tempalte via the mosShowHead() function.

This was functionality introduced in 4.5.2.0

Thumbs up re: Turning Live Bookmarks 'On' - easy in 4.5.2!

Thanks Rey!

Works a charm!
