Hi, Im working on installing mambo for our school site. Most of the components and modules Im familiar with but in the future I want to fully computerise the student/teacher/admin procedures.
There would be several user levels, the possibility of asigning usernames and passwords rather than registering. Each student would have a plan of their grouo classes, homework and info added by teachers, their payment info - installment and so on, a loyalty program where students could see how mnay points they have. Teachers would be able to record their lesson plans, send group emails to the students in agiven group, check their schedules, see other tasks and their income for the given month. Admin would be able to record info and send messages to studenst and teachers and plan lessons. Each student would have their group schedule whilee teachers would have a schedule with all their groups. There would also be the possibility of recurrent lesson planning where teachers switch eg. Mondays it would John and on Fridays it would be Susan. I know that there are such programs available because one of our competitors has one but its custommade and in asp. Im loking for a programmer to help design one for us. We are able to provide own graphics so just an analytical brain could do the job!. Let me know if this is just too ambitious ![]() |

Checkout http://moodle.org
Its Open Source - PHP/MySQL and might well give you food for thought. I seem to remember some previoiue discussion about Mambo integration, but can't remember where I saw it now! I can say that it runs happily in an IFrame from Mambo or by using the Wrapper Component. It willl address many of your very reasonable ambitions |

Hi alex
I'm interested in some similar functionality for my college, I'm intending to use Mambo pretty much out of the box to handle the portal side of things..splitting subject info into departments and using Docman (and docman links in content) for assignments/aids etc and trust the limited user management to seperate the teacher student views and abilities. Add a few other useful components like glossary, akostaff, philaform, event calendar, maybe the upcoming outlook like scheduler and its a nice start. However, now I need to be thinking of ways of viewing student data from the main admin system AND/ OR having a student progress tracking or student concern 'application' (NOT writing back to main system - a mambo installed mysql table(s)) allowing the classroom teachers to create or append text or numeric data on a given module etc and for related staff to be able to view, or even receives triggered warnings (cause for concern about student?). I've looked at Moodle too..and it is worth serious consideration, but I'd prefer something integrated into Mambo (obviously :P ) |

ATutor and ACollab (project collaboration) run fine in Mambo using the Wrapper component. You can run ACollab as a module or as a standalone application with Wrapper. In 4.5.1, Wrapper is integrated as a new menu item type, so you would not need to install it as a separate component. Authentication (login) would be separate.

Moodle relies on ADODB for abstraction. If Matthew Hand releases a new version of ADODB for 4.5.1, it could probably be ported over. As an application, its a bit larger than Mambo, so it would be best to wait until the package support for Mambo is introduced. Most likely, you would probably have to wait for 4.6 or whatever its successor is now called.
