Default The new SPAW Editor testet for 4.5.2.x with all browsers !

The SPAW editor is ready to run now and can used with mambo 4.5.2 now.
The installation is very simple which you have to do in the backend.

The editor works fine with all browsers. Testet mit ie, firefox, netscape und opera.

There you’ll find a online demo: http://www.solmetra.com/spaw/demo/demo.php

Pedro Gonçalves finished the WYSIWYG editor. Therefore all editors complete and ready to use with mambo.
A german translation is included, but 33 diverent languages are aveable too. We say thank-you to Simon Schmitz for the german translation.

I gratitude to the beta testers, particularly to Marco Kobek, who tested the path problems with me in detail.
The advantage from the SPAW editor is it’s easy structure and the simplicity to create content, using and correcting it.
Folders and subfolders can created easyly and the moderators get a clear structure for the picture folders.

The installation on a MSAS is done fast too without any problems.

The developement team:

Excellent look and feel ... very slick

BUT nothing works in FF 1.02

The page when it loads shows nothing in the text area even though there is content there. None of the buttons work either.

In IE 6 no problems

----------------------------------------
URL Link

This needs some work the latest Tiny Editor does this real well by being able to link to all existing articles.

When I create a link in a sentence then save the item the paragraph above disappears. This is in IE.

Look like it's not quite there yet ... another one nearly across the line

Suggest you provide some more comments about usage of the bit above for the average user. It could be confusing for some

Using SPAW and very happy, best word cleaner of the lot.
I originally had the blank text box problem, which was solved by making sure the url included the www. (same as all other editors)
Looking forward to the TO DO's being finalised, but all in all, my users really like this editor.
My vote is 4.5 stars

Agreed, this would be nice to test out on your demo. Could you set a cronjob to clear a specified upload folder ever hour?

This new editor seems to be working well in your demo - congrats! Some of the icons (especially text font color vs. text background color) are not intuitive, so tool tips would be a nice option to help the user. Nice work

Why can't something like this in the default installation? Without installing any components/modules? TinyMCE is craptacular. Its better than nothing I guess, but it could be improved a lot more. The enhanced editor for vB would be better than TinyMCE, htmlArea would be too. Hopefully in a future version, they will listen to some of the user suggestions.

Unhappy

I have some thoughts that I would gladly discuss as to why the editors that you mentioned are not included with Mambo. I will hold these in light your other comment which I definitely take issue with.

The developers of Mambo are extremely focused on user experience AND user feedback. I have been really surprised and encouraged at their interest level and responsiveness to their users. Please spend more time in the community and/or reading these forums before making such assertions.

Hey, all I'm saying is that it could be improved. I'm not saying that Mambo developers aren't doing anything about it (user suggestions). I have been using Mambo for a long time, just because I'm not as active in the forums here, doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the work they have done.

Couple things to note that I found wrong:

In FF1.02 Once you apply changes you can't deleted anything (text or images) on the page until you type something new. For some reason the delete key gets disabled.

Somestimes when I open a page it doesnt pull in the information thats there.

In one section we have a into item with read more. Once you switch to the read more page we have the intro disabled so it doesnt repeat. Using SPAW and clicking hide intro kills it on both sections instead of just the "read more" page.

Also when inserting an image I noticed all my directories aren't showing up. It's stoping short 1 sub directory level.

I've installed it in my Mambo 4.5.2.1 setup.

Firefox 1.0.4 : I can't get it to work at all!!
IE6 : seems to work, although not tested thoroughly.

I have Mambo 4.5.2.1 and I'm using mostly FF1.04.

I do get spaw working in FF, but no tooltips are shown. Also there are a lot of functions missing in FF (Gecko), see screenshot FF as upper IE6 as lower.

This editor is really beautiful in IE, but it is very much cropped down in FF/Mozilla.

Any change of getting these missing funtions into the FF version?

Screenshot:

Cheers

Thanks for this maaaaaaaaaaaarvelloussssssss goodie. I'm a newbie to MOS and this will the the 1st mambot I'll install. Wish me luck...
Tried your online demo and here are my remarks:

***** Typing can be real fast. Bravo. Usually I lose characters on the way (like in this forum) or they get inverted.

***** Numbered lists work beautifully and readapt fine even on several levels. Can't say that of most editors I've used.

***** Personalized lists of styles will be a godsend if I ever have the skill of making them work... Not easy for a newbie...

*** html preview is most useful and unobtrusive. Problem is that it doesn't highlight the selection one made in Design mode. Hence it's not easy to locate the area one wants to look at/edit. If the document is long, it could take several minutes.

** Absence of alt tags/captions over the buttons (at least in Firefox) doesn't make it easy to work out the use of some buttons. Specially for the pix and tables which look pretty similar. A visitor wouldn't like it...

*** takes absolute ages to load the colour picker and the pix folder (even when it containted only 3 pix as in your demo). Except for greys, color picker doesn't seem to have all the palest colours, i.e. real light yellow, green, etc.

** Never managed to add a row in a table (except by copying and pasting the html code). Found no way to vertical align content of cells (except by changing the code) but I guess one could use a stylesheet to overcome this limitation.

Question: code seems to introduce <br> instead of <p> but this could be a stupid newbie interrogation, <p> being not allowed in database fields???

Altogether these are (easily resolved?) details compared to alltogether great quality of this tool. Thanks again.
