edits wont stick - Mambo

no matter how I edit from front end or admin... the edits wont save ... it always shows the way it did before the edit.

I have refreshed the browser chache and gotten a new copy form server (ctrl + shift + refresh)
chmod is currently 777 (from global config page)
what else should I check.

very frustrated.

for those who follow history... Managed to figure out that if I use Explorer (any version) I can edit (front end) only. If I go into Admin mode in exploder. the drop down menus are off the left of the browser and are un-usable..

no matter today we are attempting an upgrade.
