Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if any member of the dev. team can shed some light on this issue, namely how easy (hard) will be to move existing sites/content from 4.5.x series to 5.0 and any potential problems/issues we might expect to encounter.
The feature set that 5.0 offers is what I'm looking for right now, though I would settle with options that 4.5.x has while waiting for 5.0, if there is a good upgrade path.

I understand that it might be too early to ask about this, but for myself at least is a big issue, because I have not deployed 4.5.x anywhere yet out of fear that I won't be able to utilize 5.0 later on. If it's going to be too much hassle to move existing content from 4.5.x to 5.0, there's no point for me to even go with 4.5.x at all.

thanks

I'll let someone more in the knows provide the final answer on this;

in the meantime you may want to read the roadmap and a few details on the Help site. (http://help.mamboserver.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=464&Itemid=90)

The general goals of the maintenance of version 4.5.x are: ... To provide in the final versions export capabilities for version 5.0
(note it doesn't say "upgrade"!)

Version 5.0 will be developed in parallel with the maintenance of version 4.5. This version is not intended to be completely backwardly compatible with version 4.5.x. ...

Thanks, reading the roadmap now...

Too bad that it is not backward compatible, but I hope going from 4.x to 5.x will not be too difficult.

Every effort will be made to allow at least content migration from 4.x.x sites to 5.0 sites.

However, this is far too early to say what compatability/upgrade issues may occur. However, we will make every effort to try and overcome such difficulties.
