View Full Version : SMF installation
Hi people,
I am in the process of installing SMF Forum on my Mambo site, I have reached the stage where it is asking for mySQL details, do I enter the one that Mambo is using or do I need to create a new one,
Thanks for any help.
Figured the above out, now I have a new problem:
Install SMFMamboMod.zip using your SMF Package Manager.
Where is the SMF Package Manager in Mambo? From SMF config page in Mambo I have tried clicking on User Manager but the page is empty, is this where it should be?
Thanks.
Anyone got SMF installed, maybe you could tell me where I should be seeing SMF Package Manager.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The SMFMamboMod_1.3b2 is intalled in the forum's Admin --> Package Manager --> Download New Packges --> browse and upload the SMFMamboMod_1.3b2 from your drive.
Also, if you don't already have it, you need the Mod Mambo-SMFLoginModulev13a
Get it here
http://www.mambohacks.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,40/func,fileinfo/parent,folder/filecatid,25/
I tried this and everything worked except the Register and the Lost Password?

It sounds like you've run into the same confusion I did trying to install the SMF component. There are two different components at MamboForge and both of them are only bridges to the SMF Forum. They do not contain the SMF Forum itself. You need to have installed the SMF forum seperately. Once you have done that, you need to login to the SMF Forum and the Package Manager is a function of that application (follow the intructions by hazman above)
You can find the SMF Forum and instructions for installing it here:

I am trying t obridge my SMF & Mambo.
I went here (http://mamboforge.net/frs/?group_id=543&release_id=3817) and downloaded MOS_SMF_BRIDGEv3.14stable.zip, MOS_SMF_BRIDGEv3.15stable.zip, and MOS_SMF_BRIDGEv3.16stable.zip. Next, I went to my forumand into my admin panel and then into my package manager. I uploaded MOS_SMF_BRIDGEv3.14stable.zip and it failed. I tried MOS_SMF_BRIDGEv3.15stable.zip, and it failed. I also tried MOS_SMF_BRIDGEv3.16stable.zip, and it failed as well.
An Error Has Occurred!
The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted.
Any help is appreciated.

I got stuck on this as well, but in the SMF Admin panel it shows you the proper setting ... copy it from there, paste into Mambo and it works :)

The absolute path is the path as you would access it through the ftp server.

OK...
1) the SMF bridge with mambo requires you to have SMF installed as a standalone utnility first of all... (download it from simplemachines.org)
1a) The package manager is a part of SMF. it is not part of mambo, except as, once you have the bridge installed, smf can be wrapped in mambo. the SMF admin and the mambo admin are separate functions.
2) The Mambohacks version of the bridge violates the SMF license agreement. If you install this bridge you will recieve no support on the SMF side of things.
3) the officially supported SMF bridge is up to v3.19 stable... there is one version for SMF 1.0.x and one for SMF 1.1 beta 3 public. Make sure you have the right version!
4) The download of the SMF bridge (3.19) needs to be extracted onto your local drive. After that, go to the step 1 directory and follow the instructions to install the smf mod via the smf package manager. Step 2 installs the bridge component in mambo admin (configure now). Step 3 installs the combined registration component in mambo admin (configure now). Step 4 installs the combined login module in mambo admin.
Step 4 is the complicaticated part...
after installing the combined login module, you will need to access your mambo template and add the code into it, as instructed in the step 4 readme.
Once that code is added, then UNpublish the mod_login and PUBLISH the mod_smf_login. Open mod_smf_login config and set the functions as you desire. SAVE the module (even if you didn't change anything.... for some reason mambo has issues with some functions of modules if they are not saved at least once... this is a mambo issue, not related to the bridge at all)
5) As stated, the absolute path to your SMF installation can usually be found in the SMF admin... it's usually something like "/home/cpanelusername/public_html/forum/"

I'm looking all over and can't find any simple answers.
I want to use SMF within Mambo. I had, at one time, used a different BB system and had installed it as a module or mambot WITHIN mambo. I want to be sure I understand SMF
If i'm understanding correctly, I need to download SMF and install it OUTSIDE of Mambo. So, for me I would use my host's Fantastico to install SMF. Then, I would download this bridge thing and install it. That would, in turn, give me SMF WITHIN mambo.
Is this correct? If not, could someone lay out a VERY SIMPLE, step-by-step process to get SMF up and working within Mambo? (ie: 1)download SMF from www.xxxxxx.com 2)upload the folder to a folder on your webspace 3) run the installer 4) . . . Etc. . .
Thanks a ton.

Yes, if you get SMF Bridge from Mamboforge, and follow all the links from the stuff you get, it all becomes possible!

Hello everybody!
I am also having same problem. It seems that the authentication & registration are still working seperate, even after the installation of the component "MamboSMFForum_1[1].3.2b1".
An integration component is supposed to handle members' registration/authentication & handling of sessions and cookies but this component is not doing what it is supposed to do.
Please help me integrate these two applicaitons, thanks.
