View Full Version : Is there a way to make items first, then link to categories?

OK... I understand the schema for organizing content, mostly. But I would like to know if there is a way to simply get content pages (items) into the system and THEN associate them with categories and sections. I have content where I know it will appear, but I am unsure how it will be linked.
Can I do this with the Typed Content option? For some content you really don't need all these levels.

I expected too that creating categories, sections, then content would automatically create a menu and submenu schema such that creating a link with the Menu Manager to a category automatically created submenus based on the sections and pages. Or did I simply not do something right?

One thing I have found strange, coming from phpwebsite, is that you cannot create your menu titles in the Menu Manager first, then link to the page or area afterward. Is there a mod of some sort that will let you do this?

Overall the install, setup and options of this system are fantastic. Just working on my learning curve. :-)

Thanks!

Or did I simply not do something right?Mambo does not create a Menu link automatically because there is no way to know HOW you want to display your content...some will want a Content Section link, while others may want to view it with a Blog Category, etc...

Is there a mod of some sort that will let you do this? Not sure why you would need to do this...You can change the Parent settings for each item easily.

Well, I may not be typical but I like to have my menus all set up first. Typically I do a roadmap of the site (what the main menus will be). Then create all the content, then link it all up last. Anyone else work this way?

I was using phpWebSite for a while before Mambo too. It was very convenient to have the choice to add new content to the menu straight from the add content component... saved a few clicks.

Mambo OS is open source. Feel free to do with it as you wish. But if you break it you fix it.

If that was aimed my way, there is no chance that I would trust me with making any serious changes to the core. That would be just begging for a bad hair day. :P

I think it is somewhat useful to at least be aware of useability issues even if they may not be important enough to be added to the "wish list".
